OVERVIEW

Explore the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ on our 6 nights and 7 days Sri Lanka family package that starts at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and then takes you to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Enjoy the cultural city of Kandy, the scenic tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya and the sandy beaches of Bentota. End your trip at the capital, Colombo with a city tour and some shopping.

  • On Day 1, arrive in Sri Lanka and travel to Sigiriya and on the way, make a pit stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
  • On Day 2, you will travel to Kandy, visiting the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site enroute.
  • On Day 3, you will drive to Nuwara Eliya and visit a tea plantation on the way. Later, visit the Seetha Amman Temple and Hakgala Garden.
  • On Day 4, you will move to the beach town of Bentota. Enroute, experience some heart-pumping White Water Rafting at Kithulgala.
  • On Day 5, make a trip to the heritage city of Galle and also, visit the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda and going on a Madu River Boat Ride.
  • On Day 6, depart for Colombo and visit its historic, religious and commercial landmarks.
  • On Day 7, your family vacation to Sri Lanka comes to an end.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Arrival in Colombo; Colombo to Pinnawala to Sigiriya

Arrive in Sri Lanka, where your chauffeur will meet you and drive you to Sigiriya. Enroute, visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, which serves as a captive breeding ground for elephants. The bathing and feeding times are the most fun times to visit the Orphanage.

In the evening, visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of the most visited tourist destinations of Sri Lanka. The word Sigiriya means the Lion’s Rock and was built in the 5th century. There are around 1200 steps to be climbed to reach the top of Sigiriya.

Stay overnight in Sigiriya.

DAY 2

Sigiriya to Kandy

After breakfast, drive to Kandy. Enroute visit the historical town of Dambulla, with the Dambulla Cave Temple with over 130 statues and multiples paintings.

Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so this city tour will be quite exciting. The city is situated 480 meters above sea level and is nestled in the middle of the beautiful mountains.

On reaching Kandy, visit the Upper Lake Drive to see scenic views of the city and the Market Square. Then, proceed to The Temple of the Tooth, which is believed to house the ‘tooth relic’ of Lord Buddha. Walk around town, and shop some souvenirs made of wood, copper, brass, bronze, silver, etc. End your day watching a traditional Kandyan Dance performance.

DAY 3

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, with over 5000 species of trees and plants, a spice garden and an Orchid House. In the afternoon, proceed to Nuwara Eliya, visiting the beautiful Ramboda Falls and a tea factory on the way.

Nuwara Eliya is the highest town in Sri Lanka at an elevation of 2000 meters above sea level, located in the centre of the tea region in Sri Lanka. Known as “Little England”, it is a popular destination in Sri Lanka with its cool climate, colonial architecture and little bungalows with hedges.

In the evening, proceed on a city tour of Nuwara Eliya. Visit Victoria Park - a heaven for birdwatchers, Gregory Lake where you can indulge in boating, the Seetha Amman Temple where it is believed that Sita was held captive by Ravana and Hakgala Garden where Ravana is said to have imprisoned Sita.

Stay overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

DAY 4

Nuwara Eliya to Bentota

After breakfast at your hotel in Nuwara Eliya, you will depart for Bentota via Kithulgala. At Kithulgala, adventure junkies can go for White Water Rafting.

Stay overnight in Kalutara / Bentota / Hikkaduwa.

DAY 5

Day Trip to Galle

After breakfast, drive to the heritage city of Galle. The Old Town of Galle and its fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Dutch Fort is the popular attraction here and is over 300 years old. The lighthouse and the church are other places of interest here.

On the way back, visit the Madu River, where you will go on a boat ride. The river has rich bio-diversity with over 70 species of fish, 31 types of reptiles, 50 kinds of butterflies, 11 species of agnatic molluscs and 14 land-dwelling molluscs. Also, visit the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda known for its interesting sea-turtle conservation project.

Stay overnight in Kalutara / Bentota / Hikkaduwa.

DAY 6

Bentota to Colombo

After breakfast, transfer to the capital city, Colombo and check into your hotel. In the evening, proceed for a city tour of Colombo. Visit historic, religious and commercial landmarks of Colombo, such as The National Museum, Parliament Complex, Independence Square, Town Hall, Colombo Fort, Pettah, Galle Face Green, Viharamahadevi Park, and more.

Stay overnight in Colombo.

DAY 7

Departure Colombo - Airport

After breakfast in your hotel, you will check out and head to the airport for your departure flight.

WHEN TO GO

Sri Lanka has two different monsoons, with a tropical climate as it is very close to the equator and humidity levels are very high. It’s monsoon time in the West and Southwest coasts and the hilly areas of Sri Lanka between April-May to September. The Northeast Maha monsoon that hits the Eastern coast happens between November and March. Therefore, if you are planning on visiting the West and the Southern coasts and the hilly regions, it is between December-March. April-September is the ideal time to visit the eastern coast of the island.
