ITINERARY

DAY 1

Guwahati – Bhalukpong

Arrive in Guwahati and transfer to Bhalukpong (250 kms, 5 hrs), a town on the Kameng River popular for nature and wildlife lovers.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2

Bhalukpong – Dirang

After breakfast, drive to Dirang (185 kms, 6.5 hrs). Enroute, visit Tipi Orchid Research Centre, whose orchid glass house is home to 1000 exotic orchids.

Later, check in to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 3

Dirang – Tawang

After breakfast, drive to Tawang (155 kms, 6 hrs) passing snow-clad Sela Pass at 13,700 ft and the nearby beautiful Sela Lake. Visit Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to Jaswant Singh who was martyred during the Indo-China 1962 War. Then, stop at Jung Falls, which are around 100m high.

Reach Tawang, birthplace of His Holiness the 6th Dalai Lama. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 4

Tawang

After breakfast, visit the highlight of Arunachal Pradesh, the Tawang Monastery, ‘Golden Namgyal Lhatse’. It is the second largest monastery in the world and is around 400 years old, with an 18-feet massive statue of Buddha. At an elevation of 10,000 ft, it offers great views of the Tawang-Chu valley.

Next, visit Urgelling Monastery, where His Holiness the 6th Dalai Lama was born in 1683. Later, visit the Tawang War Memorial commemorating the martyrs of the 1962 Indo-China war and watch the light and sound show in the evening.

DAY 5

Tawang – Bomdila

After breakfast, drive to Bomdila (180 kms, 6 hrs), known for its Buddhists monasteries, apple orchards, hiking trails and Himalayan peaks.

DAY 6

Bomdila – Guwahati

After breakfast, drive to Guwahati (340 kms, 9 hrs) and check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 7

Departure from Guwahati

In the morning, visit Kamakhya Temple perched on top of Nilachal Hill and transfer to the airport for your journey back home.

WHEN TO GO

Nov-Apr is the best time to visit. You could experience the snowfall at the Sela Pass and Tawang valley during Jan-Feb, when the weather is very cold.
