OVERVIEW

Your Extensive South India tour starts in the state of Kerala at the coastal town of Kovalam. Then, spend some time in the southernmost town of Kanyakumari, the temple towns of Rameswaram and Madurai, the lovely hill stations of Kodaikanal and Ooty and the heritage cities of Mysore and Bangalore.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Arrival in Trivandrum - Kovalam

Arrive in the capital of Kerala, Trivandrum and meet our representative. Visit the 1729 Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, with an 18 feet tall idol of Lord Vishnu and the city’s museums - The Napier Museum and Kuthiramalika Palace Museum.

Later, drive to Kovalam, where you check in to your hotel. Relax on the palm fringed beaches of Kovalam.

DAY 2

Kovalam - Kanyakumari (90 kms, 3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, proceed to Kanyakumari at the southern tip of the country. Check in to the hotel and proceed on a sightseeing tour visiting Kanyakumari Temple followed by Thiruvalluvar Statue (Valluvar Statue), a 133 feet tall stone statue of the Tamil philosopher and poet, Valluvar. Also, visit the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial surrounded by the sea on all sides, built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock.

DAY 3

Kanyakumari - Rameswaram (325 kms, 5 hrs drive)

Witness the mesmerizing sunrise that Kanyakumari is known for and then check out of the hotel to drive to Rameswaram, one of the holiest towns in India. Visit Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Then, visit Pamban Bridge and APJ Abdul Kalam House, the residence of the former President of India.

DAY 4

Rameswaram - Kodaikanal (300 kms, 5 hrs drive)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Kodaikanal, the ‘Princess of Hill Stations’, passing by the green rolling hills and enjoying the mesmerising views. Check into your hotel at Kodaikanal. Later, proceed for a sightseeing tour of this lakeside town, which includes the popular tourist spot - Guna caves, discovered in 1821 and formed between 3 boulders.

DAY 5

Kodaikanal

After breakfast in the hotel, proceed for a full day sightseeing tour of Kodaikanal, a popular cliffside destination. Visit Coackers walk, Bryant Park, Kodaikanal Lake, Chettiyar Park and Kurinji Andavar Temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan, set in scenic surroundings with Kurinji flowers that bloom once in 12 years. You can also enjoy a romantic boat ride in the Kodaikanal Lake.

DAY 6

Kodaikanal - Madurai (125 kms, 3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to the temple town of Madurai. Enroute, visit Tirupparankundram, an important pilgrimage centre. Later, visit the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her consort, Lord Shiva, with its 14 towering gopurams of which, the tallest is almost 170 feet tall. The temple is one of the most famous temples of Tamil Nadu. Then, visit the Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace, a 17th century palace built in the Indo-Saracenic style.

DAY 7

Madurai - Ooty (325 kms, 6 hrs drive)

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Ooty. Enroute, visit Black Thunder Water Theme Park at Mettupalayam for a fun-filled day on slides and rides.

Reach Ooty and stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 8

Ooty

After breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Ooty covering the famous Ooty Botanical Garden, Doddabetta Peak (2623 m), Sim’s Park and Ooty Lake. In the afternoon, experience the scenic journey aboard the famous toy train, Nilgiri Mountain Railway Line (tickets not included) from the town of Mettupalayam to the hill station of Ooty and later, drive to explore the local market of Ooty.

DAY 9

Ooty - Mysore (130 kms, 2 hrs drive)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to the heritage city of Mysore. Enroute visit Mudhumalai National Park, a 200-square-mile wildlife sanctuary and national park open since 1940, also known for its tiger reserve.

On arrival at Mysore, check in to the hotel. In the evening, experience the Brindavan Garden light and sound show.

DAY 10

Mysore - Bangalore

After breakfast, check out of the hotel to proceed to full day sightseeing of Mysore including KrishnaRajaSagara Dam, the 12th century Chamundeswari Temple, Jaganmohan Palace and the famous opulent Mysore Palace, seat of the Wodeyar Maharajas of Mysore.

Drive onwards to Bangalore and visit Srirangapatna for the Srirangapatna Fort, The Mausoleum of Tipu Sultan and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple enroute.

DAY 11

Departure from Bangalore

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to the ‘Garden City’, Bangalore. Proceed for a sightseeing tour to visit Lalbagh, the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka - Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore Palace, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, the vibrant Cubbon Park, Bull Temple and ISKCON temple.

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
