Assam is bordered in the North by Bhutan and in the east by Arunachal Pradesh. Along the south lies Nagaland, Manipur, and to the extreme south lies Mizoram. Meghalaya lies to her Southwest, Bengal and Bangladesh to her West. Assam is a state of breath taking scenic beauty, rarest flora and fauna, lofty green hills, vast rolling plain, mighty waterways and a land of fairs and festivals.  With tea gardens and unending stretches of paddy fields interspersed with groves of coconut, areca nuts, and banana trees, is one of the biggest State in the North East of India and the most accessible. It is a land that could mesmerize you with its mythology and magic.

 

 


Guwahati is well connected by air with most of the metros in the country. All the major carriers operate regular flights on daily basis to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati. Other Airports in Assam are at Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat and Silchar. Guwahati is also well connected to all metros by Indian Railways. Guwahati has been an important administrative and trading center and a river port. Guwahati is the largest city of Assam and North eastern India and one of the fastest growing cities in India, situated on the South Bank of the Brahmaputra and the foothills of the Shillong plateau. Many ancient Hindu temples are in the city, giving it the name "City of Temples". Dispur, the capital of Assam. The Guwahati region hosts diverse wildlife including rare animals such as Asian elephants, pythons, tigers, rhinoceros, gaurs, primate species, and endangered birds.

 

 

 

Kaziranga: Kaziranga is located within two districts in the Indian state of Assam—the Kaliabor subdivision of Nagaon district and the Bokakhat subdivision of Golaghat district. Kaziranga National Park is home to the single horned Rhino – one of Assam’s famous draws. A visit to Kaziranga will almost certainly assure you of a Rhino sighting and perhaps a tiger if you’re lucky.  It is also home to many other species that will thrill you.

 

 

 

Shillong: Shillong is the Capital of Meghalaya and situated in the centre of a high plateau within Khasi Hills. It has been called “the Scotland of the south”. The Hightest peak in the state is the Shillong peak about 1968 m. Cherrapunji lies 60 kms from Shillong, one of the heaviest rain belt in the world.

 

 

 

Guwahati Airport: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport named after Gopinath Bordoloi, who was a freedom fighter and also the first Chief Minister of Assam after independence of India. It was also known as Guwahati International Airport and formerly as Borjhar Airport. It is the primary international airport of the North-Eastern States of India, situated at Borjhar in Guwahati. The airport is managed by Airports Authority of India and also serves as an Indian Air Force base. Guwahati airport is a hub for domestic flights to North-East India. It also provides international flight services to Bangkok and Paro. Helicopter services are operated from Guwahati to Shillong, Tura, Naharlagun (Itanagar), Tawang by Pawan Hans.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Arrival at Guwahati to Kaziranga. (240 KM / 5 HRS)

On arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station meet and greet by our representative and then transfer to Kaziranga National Park.

On Arrival to Kaziranga, checkin to the hotel. You are free to explore on your own  

Overnight stay at Hotel in Kaziranga.

 

DAY 2

Kaziranga

Early morning explore Western Zone of Kaziranga National Park on elephant ride. The park is home to around two-third of world's great one-horned Indian rhinos and over 1000 Wild elephants and the highest density of Royal Bengal tigers among the protected areas of the world. In the year 2006, Kaziranga was declared as a tiger reserve. Kaziranga is also a bird watcher's paradise and home to some 500 species of birds. The Crested Serpent Eagle, Palla's Fishing Eagle, Greyheaded Fishing Eagle, Swamp Partridge, Bar-headed goose, whistling Teal, Bengal Florican, Storks, Herons and Pelicans are some of the species found here. Kaziranga is recognized as an 'Important Bird Area’ by Birdlife International for the conservation of avifaunal species.
Return to the hotel for breakfast.  After drive in jeep safari through the Central Zone of the National Park.

Evening visit tea Garden to witness the origin of the Assamese Tea.

DAY 3

Kaziranga to Shillong (280 Kms / 7 Hrs).

After early morning breakfast then proceed for Shillong also called 'Scotland of the East".Enroute visit Umiam Lake also known as Barapani Lake with its surrounding sylvan hills. The Umiam Lake is a reservoir located 15 km to the North of Shillong. Umiam Dam, which impounds the lake, was built by the Assam State Electricity Board in the early 1960s. The dam's original purpose was to store water for hydroelectric power generation. It is also a popular destination for water sport and adventure facilities. Mostly visitors are here for kayaking, water cycling, scooting and boating.

On arrival at Shillong, check in to the hotel. Evening free to stroll around.

DAY 4

Shillong to Cherrapunjee (60 Kms / 1 .5 Hrs)

After early breakfast drive to enjoy the mesmerizing mornings of Shillong to Cherapunji one of the wettest places on Earth.

En-route visit Shillong peak believed to be the abode of the deity that protects the city. Located at an altitude of 1970 mtrs. Shillong Peak is the highest point of Shillong and offers a breathtaking view of the entire city, the waterfalls, surrounding mountains and the plains across the Bangladesh Border.

Elephant falls locally popular as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew, which translates to "the three - step waterfall. The name originated in the British era when the Englishmen spotted a giant rock that looked like an elephant near the fall. Also stop at Nohkalikai Water Falls which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India.

Explore the caves known as Mawsmai. The Mawsmai Caves are naturally formed limestone caves which lit itself enhancing visitors to explore around. Though the caves are long, only a distance of 150 meters is open for visitors. The stalactites and stalagmites caves have innumerable forms, shapes and sizes inside leaving one to imagine as many life forms as possible. This magnificent natural wonder is the handiwork of years of natural abrasion and underground water.

Visit the Seven Sister Waterfalls also known as Nohsngithiang Falls form a seven-segmented waterfall, which plunges over the top of limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills. It is the Fourth Highest Waterfall in India.

Eco Park created atop in the plateaus of Meghalaya the park hosts many beautiful orchids in the Eco Park’s greenhouse. A beautiful crossover bridge opens up the sweeping views of the green canyons of Shillong and the stretching Silent Plains of Bangladesh.

DAY 5

Shillong – Guwahati (100 kms / 3 Hrs)

After breakfast visit the local places of Shillong.

Don Bosco Monument hailed as Asia's largest Museum of Indigenous Cultures, the Don Bosco Museum is the house of the beautiful culture and tradition of North East India. It is conveniently located in the Mawlai area. With its seven storeys, it rises into the skyline of Shillong and flaunts 16 laid out galleries that showcase artefacts, paintings, figures significant to the Northeastern culture giving an insight into the lifestyle of the North-Eastern people.

Ward’s lake also known as Pollock’s Lake is a manmade lake encircled by an extensive lush garden in the middle of the city. A walk around the horse-shoe shaped lake on the cobble-stone path or simply admire the colourful floral beds in the garden. The lake is named after the then Chief Commissioner of Assam, Sir William Ward, who started the plan for the establishment of this lake. It was later on constructed in the year 1894 by Colonel Hopkins.

Botanical Garden: placed alongside the Ward Lake amidst the virgin forest of Mawphlang. The Botanical garden houses an amazing collection of rare orchids and plantations. A myth is also associated with the flora and the forest of this area. It is said that the trees and plants here are sacred and if anyone disturbs them, he calls for misfortune. Take a walk at the well-maintained pavement and treat your eyes to the lovely views here.

Lady hydari Park located in the heart of the city. Lady Hydari Park, owes its existence to the erstwhile nature loving first lady of the state, Lady Hydari the wife of Governor of Assam. This mini zoo clubbed with a deer park stretches for more than one Kilometre and presents some of the best grown and bred rose beds. The park has been very passionately maintained and also provides a special play arena for the tiny tots.

Evening free to stroll around market for shopping.

DAY 6

Guwahati to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station. (22.2 km / 50 Min.)

After breakfast depart transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey

WHEN TO GO

This area receives rainfall during May-October, offering the best views of the waterfalls and lush valleys and if you want to experience the rains, then this is a good time. Best time to visit Kaziranga National Park, after Jan 2nd week as grass levels will come down and clear visibility will be there.
