Day 1: Arrive at Gangtok Arrival at Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and travel to Gangtok (5000 ft - 120 kms - 4 hrs). The rest of the day is for you to spend at leisure to recuperate from the long journey and get acquainted with surroundings.
Day 2: Gangtok - Nathu La / Tsomgu lake - BabaMandir - Gangtok Today, you will retrace the old silk route and drive up to the Nathu La Pass (14000+ ft). The road moves through varied terrains and landscapes, crossing over the tree line of the Sikkim Himalayas and reaches atop the pass connecting the Indian state of Sikkim with Tibet. Spend some time at the pass and drive to Tsomgo Lake (3780 m) and Baba Mandir. On the way, you can buy some Chinese goods, as this is the major spot for trade between the two countries. You may also visit the border check post and shake hands with soldiers while enjoying the panoramic views around.
Day 3: Gangtok - Lachen Today, you start early in the morning for a 150 kms drive through some of the most rugged terrains in India. You cover a distance of 130 kms to reach Lachen (9000+ ft) in about 6 hours. Enroute, you stop at view points, waterfalls, ancient monasteries and Tibetan villages to arrive by late afternoon. The rest of the day is for you to spend in enjoying and exploring the stunning Himalayan character of Lachen.
Day 4: Lachen - Gurudongmar Lake - Lachung Start early (around 4 AM) to reach Gurudongmar lake, a frozen lake at an altitude of 12000+ ft. The whole journey moves around rough roads around the India-China border. The 82 kms drive feels like off-roading as you enter a cold desert heavily guarded by the army. Later, drive back to Lachen to reach by lunch time. After lunch, get transferred to the twin village of Lachung (8500+ ft asl). Spend the rest of the day resting and enjoying stunning views.
Day 5: Lachung - Yumthang Valley - Lachung Today, you depart early to drive to the beautiful valley of flowers at Yumthang (11700 ft asl). After a short 2 hour drive through a protected forest of a rhododendron sanctuary, you will reach these amazing grasslands of Yumthang valley, grazed by the wild horses and yaks throughout the summer, before it gets covered in snow for another 8 months. Spend some rare moments here before driving back to Lachung.
Day 6: Lachung - Gangtok Start early to beat the traffic and trace the road back to Gangtok to reach by the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day at leisure visiting Gangtok market and exploring around on your own.
Day 7: Departure from Bagdogra/ NJP Drive to Bagdogra or New Jalpaiguri for departure to your onward destination.
