Rajasthan in North West India is the most popular destination in India for international travelers. It is visited for its UNESCO heritage sites, grand palaces, heritage hotels, craft heritage, wildlife and superb countryside. Let me summarize holidays to Rajasthan in a nutshell for a first-time traveller.

Access – How to Reach Rajasthan

Delhi (North India) is the most popular access point for international travellers to Rajasthan. Travellers combine Delhi’s UNESCO heritage sites and Taj Mahal (Agra) with destinations of Rajasthan.

Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat) also get a few international flights and are used as an access point for visiting Rajasthan.

Highlights of a Rajasthan Holiday

Rajasthan is best visited for the following:

Forts and Palaces

Rajasthan has a rich history and heritage, reflected in its forts, palaces, step wells, royal observatories and many other monuments. Every destination in Rajasthan has its own history and unique character. Monuments of Rajasthan represent the very best of architecture (some of them are UNESCO as world heritage sites) and represent a definitive experience.

Heritage Hotels and Experiential Retreats

Many of the old palaces, mansions and residences have now been converted into heritage hotels. Living in a heritage style hotel is one of the sought-after experiences while on holidays to Rajasthan. Many of these offer authentic local experiences that would make your stay unlike any other in the past.

Local Experiences

No trip to Rajasthan is complete without its local experiences such as heritage walks, village visit, ethnic cuisine and craft explorations. This is where you discover India in its most authentic form, often termed as “Real India”.

The Great Thar Desert

Western Rajasthan is characterized by desert villages, sand dunes, camel rides and unique camp style stay where you can experience living in the middle of the Thar desert. Your holidays to Rajasthan are almost incomplete unless you’ve spend a night in one of these desert camps!
