If on a couples only trip in the vast expanses of Canada, and you want to unravel the country bit by bit with your companion, then the Rocky Mountain - Self Drive trip is just perfect. For this 7-day roadtrip, you fly into Calgary and after you rent the car, you visit Banff and from there you head to the beautiful Lake Louise which takes you through some of the best roadways in the whole world. And later, you reach the alpine town of Jasper, the last place on the list and it is from here you travel to Edmonton for your flight back home.

  • On Day 1, on arrival in Calgary, you spend the day in leisure and you can go on a Calgary city tour on your own.
  • On Day 2, you are enroute to the resort town of Banff and on arrival you can spend in leisure.
  • On Day 3, you go on a sightseeing trip in and around the resort town of Banff.
  • On Day 4, you head to Lake Louise from Banff via some very scenic roadways.
  • On Day 5, you visit the many sightseeing spots in and around Lake Louise and reach Jasper and stay overnight there.
  • On Day 6, you go on an interesting sightseeing trip, exploring the many sights in and around Jasper.
  • On Day 7, your trip comes to a close and you are taken to the Edmonton Airport for your onward journey home.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Calgary

You arrive in the Calgary International Airport, and proceed to the car rental location to pick up the vehicle, and proceed to the hotel. Rest of the day is at your leisure to create your own urban adventure and form your first impressions of Western Canada.

DAY 2

Calgary to Banff – 130 KM

After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and depart to Banff. On arrival, check-in at the hotel.

DAY 3

Banff

After breakfast, the day is at leisure. The resort town of Banff, set amongst the towering mountains of Rundle, Tunnel, Cascade and Norquay. Explore Bow Falls, Tunnel Mountain Drive, Surprise Corner, Hoodoos, Two Jack Viewpoint, and Lake Minnewanka Boat Cruise (admission included) for one hour wherein you get to witness the wildlife and vegetation and visit the Devil’s gap at the foothills of the Rockies. A gentle ride on the Banff Gondola (admission included) takes you to the summit of the Sulphur Mountain for a 360 degree panoramic view of the Bow Valley. In the afternoon, you hike along one of the groomed trails or stroll through the town site of Banff to shop in the many boutiques and shops.

DAY 4

Banff to Lake Louise – 60 KM

After breakfast, check-out and drive through the Bow Valley to Lake Louise. With the Victoria Glacier in the background, this emerald-coloured Lake is sure to leave an indelible impression.

DAY 5

Lake Louise to Jasper – 230 KM

After breakfast, check-out and drive to Jasper via the Icefields Parkway - Canada’s most scenic mountain roadway, a route to glaciers, lakes, and waterfalls. Arrive at the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center, take the Ice Explorer Ride which takes you up the Athabasca Glacier. Later, take a coach from the Discovery Center to the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-floored observation platform over the Sunwapta Valley for an unobstructed view of the surrounding glaciers. Continue along the Parkway to the Crowfoot Glacier, Peyto Lake, and the Bow Lake, enroute to Jasper.

DAY 6

Jasper

After breakfast day is at leisure to experience the uniquely beautiful landscape of the Jasper National Park where history is set amid some of the most rugged peaks in the Rockies. Explore the Jasper town-site, the Athabasca Viewpoint, Maligne Canyon and the Maligne Lake. At the Maligne Canyon, stroll along 50 meter walls and learn about its unique underground water system. Later, enjoy the Maligne Lake Boat Cruise (admission included) and we suggest a visit to Miette Hot Springs, go white water rafting, go on the Jasper Skytram, Sky Gazing and much more.

DAY 7

Jasper to Edmonton – 365 KM

After breakfast, check-out and proceed to Edmonton Airport. On arrival drop off the vehicle at a car rental agency and take the connecting flight to your onward destination.

WHEN TO GO

Irrespective of Canada’s size, the weather is almost similar across the country from the west to the east. Essentially, winters are very cold in all parts of Canada and summers are warm and pleasant. So that is why the spring-summer months are the best months to visit Canada. Even the fall or autumn months- September-October is good to visit certain places. If talking about visiting the British Columbia area in Canada, there is no specific peak season. But travel anywhere between June to September is ideal. So, if you are visiting, Jasper, Calgary or Banff, the summer months from June to September is perfect.
