Coastal Karnataka Pilgrimage

OVERVIEW

Murudeshwar is as good a pilgrim destination as good as its a beach getaway. The area is full of hillocks that offer stunning views of the Arabian Sea and idyllic clean beaches for a swim and a long walk. The temple itself stands on a Rock by the Sea and its difficult to imagine how anyone could build something as big as close to the shore.

Pilgrimages in Coastal Karnataka are age old, set at some very spectacular locations, have wooden architecture and steeped in ancient traditions.  Temples are set in a huge complex where Pujas and Ceremonies in the sanctum sanctorum have been conducted the same way for many centuries.

While all temples have a common character they all have different backdrops and peculiarities that make them unique e.g. Massive Wooden Chariot outside Subhramanya Temple, Western Ghats backdrop of Annapoorneshwari Temple, Stunning Arabian Sea Views from Murudeshwar and massive infrastructure created by the Dharmasthala Temple Trusts
